In order to continue to progress, inspectors identified the following next steps:

• * In a small number of subjects, leaders have not identified the important knowledge that they want pupils to learn. This means that, sometimes, teachers do not use accurate assessment checks to organise new learning. In these subjects, leaders should identify the important knowledge that pupils should know in each year group. They should support teachers to devise new learning that builds on what pupils already know.
• * Occasionally, staff do not ensure that the books that children in the early years and pupils in key stage 1 take home to read allow pupils to practise the sounds that they already know. This hampers these pupils in becoming assured readers. Teachers should ensure that the books pupils take home to read match the sounds that they are learning so they can become confident and fluent readers.

Actions taken since the inspection:

1. * Continued development of unit plans for all subjects to ensure a consistent approach to teaching and learning. 
2. * Clear start and end points identified for all units, along with identified key learning and assessment criteria. 
3. * Introduction of a validated phonics scheme from September 2023. 
4. * Development of reading scheme to ensure that texts are well-matched to pupils’ learning, especially in the early years.
