Hello Year 5!

We hope that you have had a lovely week.  Where did the sunshine go? I hope that it might come back soon.

This week's theme is Famous People.  We have put some different activities together for you to choose from and hope that you will enjoy finding out all about people who have made a difference in all kinds of ways.

Dear Year 5 children and parents,

We hope you have had a lovely Easter with your families. As it is now term time again, we wanted to provide you with some activities which you could complete at home. There is no pressure to complete these tasks, but we know that some of you appreciate ideas and guidance for home learning. Also, if you have found some other learning activities which you are enjoying, feel free to continue with that too.

Please continue to practise your times tables facts. In particular, focus on the division facts for the 6, 7, 8, 9 and 12 times tables. It really does make a tremendous difference to your mathematical abilities if you know all tables and the corresponding division facts. There are several activities on Purple Mash to help pupils practise their tables. As an alternative your child could also use Hit the Button. This is free to access via the website. Simply enter Hit The Button into your search engine. Please note there is a charge to download this as an app onto a tablet or mobile phone.

In addition, we would like your child to continue reading at home. We know that many of you will have finished the books from school, so we have added some more books to the Purple Mash site.

You could also use this opportunity to help your child learn a new skill. The BBC website has a programme called Dance Mat Typing which will enable your child to use games to learn how to touch type. We have also added Purple Mash typing activities to the Y5 work, in case this was something you wanted to develop. This is an invaluable skill as ICT becomes increasingly prevalent in more and more careers.

We hope you enjoy completing some of the activities we have selected. Do the best you can and don’t worry if it isn’t possible to complete some of the work. We very much look forward to seeing you all soon and continuing our learning journey together once we return to school.

With best wishes, from Mrs Dillon and Mrs Rigby
