School Sports Afternoons
Sat 15 Jun 2019On Monday and Tuesday this week, we enjoyed two afternoons of glorious sunshine, which enabled us to host our sports afternoons as planned!
Children competed in a range of events, including long jump, speed bounce, javelin, shot putt, netball, football and more!
It was absolutely wonderful to welcome so many family members into school to support the children, and feedback so far suggest that an enjoyable time was had by all.
Congratulations to the following children who were awarded trophies for
‘Demonstration of Olympic Values’
throughout the afternoon:
Scarlett, Jamie B, Robin,
Rehab, Oscar S, Leon, Ruby W
We are so proud of the sportspersonship demonstrated by all of our children. It was lovely to see them being so encouraging towards each other, being active, and having a good time!
Congratulations to the overall House winners:
FS / KS1: Garbett
KS2: Ashton
Many thanks to all who were able to come along to support these events, and to Rebecca and Julie, two of our School Friends, who came along to serve refreshments on both afternoons.

Marvellous Music
Fri 14 Jun 2019On Friday afternoon (14th June), Year 5 and 6 enjoyed a fantastic visit to the Ashton Hall, where they had the opportunity to experience a live orchestra. The Haffner Orchestra performed Arabian Nights stories, through Rimsky-Korsakov’s music, ‘Sheherazade’. It was a wonderful experience!
On Monday afternoon (10th June), Year 3 were invited to Bowerham Primary School to take part in a Steel Drumming Workshop. The children thoroughly enjoyed this chance to learn about a new instrument.
This morning, the whole school enjoyed hearing the talents of our musicians in school as they performed in our termly concert. It is fantastic to hear the progress that they are making! If your child is interested in music lessons in school, please return the slip to the school office.
We will continue to broaden our musical experiences later this term when we’ll welcome Susan Doherty, a specialist music teacher into year 5 for an ocarina workshop.
How exciting!

Year 3 visit to University of Cumbria
Thu 06 Jun 2019On Thursday afternoon (6th June), Year 3 enjoyed an exciting visit to the University of Cumbria to take part in a ‘Flood Awareness’ session.
This special, one-off event was organised by Chris Barlow, Senior Lecturer at the University of Cumbria, along with the Lune Valley Flood Forum, and aimed to raise children’s awareness of the role of a variety of services involved in flooding issues in the Lune Valley.
The children experienced a simulated river flood, a simulated river rescue and learnt about quick sand danger and beach safety.
What a fantastic experience!
