  • Year 2 Afternoon tea

    Wed 12 Jun 2019

    Thank you to all those who were able to join Year 2 for their afternoon tea on Wednesday 12th June. Many thanks to Lindsey and Carol from Lancaster and Morecambe College, who came into school on Wednesday morning to bake with the children in preparation for the afternoon. The children had a thoroughly enjoyable day!

  • Year 3 visit to University of Cumbria

    On Thursday afternoon (6th June), Year 3 enjoyed an   exciting visit to the University of Cumbria to take part in a ‘Flood Awareness’ session.

    This special, one-off event was organised by Chris Barlow, Senior Lecturer at the University of Cumbria, along with the Lune Valley Flood Forum, and aimed to raise children’s awareness of the role of a variety of services involved in flooding issues in the Lune Valley.

    The children experienced a simulated river flood, a simulated river rescue and learnt about quick sand danger and beach safety.

    What a fantastic experience!

  • Year 5 participation in School Sports Festival

    Year 5 had a brilliant day today (24th May) at the  Lancaster and Morecambe School Sports Festival at Salt Ayre sports Centre.

    The children took part in a range of sporting activities including Dodgeball, Orienteering, Athletics, Tag Rugby, Dance and Cheerleading.

    Huge congratulations to the Athletics team, who qualified for the School Games event, which will be held in Blackpool next half term.

     

  • Decorated Egg Competition

  • Lancaster Singing Festival

    We were delighted to be part of the annual Lancaster Singing Festival which took place on Monday and Wednesday evening this week.

     

    On Monday, the year 2 children performed brilliantly both in terms of singing and actions to accompany, while on Wednesday, the Harmony Choir represented the Key stage 2 children fantastically.

     

    Every child who attended was a credit to the school. Huge thanks to Mrs Jones and Mrs Edwards for their hard work in preparing for the performances; to all the friends and relatives of the children who supported them by attending the concert; and to the children themselves for their commitment to learning all the words!

  • School Council Joke Telling Competition

    In support of Comic Relief, the School Council organised a Joke Telling Competition which took place this afternoon.

    We had a great time listening to all the jokes, and choosing a winner from each class was very difficult! However the School Council were an excellent panel and the following entries were selected as the winners:

    Reception: Tobias:

    What wobbles in the sky? A jelly-copter!

    Year 1: George:

    Why couldn’t the long-necked dinosaur see? Because it has it’s head in the clouds!

    Year 2: Robin:

    How do you make an octopus laugh? Give it 10 tickles!

    Year 3: Dylan:

    Knock, knock. Whose there? Ghost. Ghost who? No! Ghosts go “Whooooo!”

    Year 4: Molly:

    Which teacher at Christ Church school has the most money? Mrs Ritchings!

    Year 5: James:

    How do you spot a modern spider? He has his own website!

    Year 6: Tommy:

    What cheese do you use to draw a bear out of a cave? Camembert

    A copy of all the jokes shared in the competition is available to buy from Monday in a joke booklet. If you would like to purchase one, please bring 50p to the school office. All proceeds will go to Comic Relief.

  • Lifespace

    It has been fantastic to welcome the Life Education ‘Lifespace’ in to school this week to support our PHSE curriculum.

     

    Each class has had the opportunity to visit the Lifespace to learn about various topics linked to personal, health, social and emotional development.

     

    It was also great to be able to welcome some parents to the parent session on Thursday afternoon.

  • Fairtrade Friday

    We have enjoyed a day of Fairtrade themed activities today, which we have dedicated as ‘Fairtrade Friday’.

     

    We are very fortunate to have welcomed Pam Martin into school, who, with her knowledge of Fairtrade, has been able to support teachers in sharing a range of activities with their classes.

     

    At 2.30pm, parents are invited into the school hall to share some of the work that the children have undertaken, as well as to visit our ‘Fairtrade Stall’, which features a range of craft, drink, food and household items for sale.

     

    Many thanks to the CraftAid shop at St. Thomas’ Church for their support in organising the Fairtrade items for sale.

  • Chinese New Year House afternoon

    On Tuesday afternoon, the whole school enjoyed a ‘Chinese New Year’ themed House afternoon, where we spilt into our House teams to undertake a range of creative activities linked to the Chinese New Year theme.

     

    At the end of the afternoon, the whole school met together in the hall to share some of their creations, which included a fabulous array of Chinese dragons and pigs!

     

    Thank you to Rosie for organising a Chinese New Year themed lunch to compliment the theme, and to all the staff for their hard work in preparing a range of enjoyable activities.

     

    As always, a big thank you to our wonderful children for participating with such enthusiasm!

  • School Council Pyjama Day

    Today the School Council hosted a Pyjama Day of as a way of raising funds to support Evie, the cousin of two of our pupils, who is currently undergoing treatment for Neuroblastoma, a form of Cancer, at Manchester children’s Hospital.

     

    Children (and staff!) were invited to wear their pyjamas to school in exchange for a £1 donation.

     

    At the end of the day in Celebration Assembly, we even enjoyed a bedtime story! Many thanks to all who took part - £180 was raised!
